We were delighted to attend the launch of the 2011 Gresini MotoGP team at the historic Monza circuit, Italy. The highlights of the launch were of course the riders Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama. Marco has been especially good in testing so far this season; fastest in the first Sepang test and consistently top 3. Needless to say he was brimming with confidence and his usual charm. Hiroshi told me he feels far happier on the Gresini bike and team than he had last year - and hopes to regain his beautiful style with which he won the last 250cc championship in 2009. He is a really nice guy and very easy to talk to, and I expect our customers will take to him.

The launch itself kicked off with a humorous video of Marco and Hiroshi working a day in the San Carlo (crisp) factory. They rolled up to the launch in a beautifully restored 1960s Ural with sidecar rig. We joked that we knew they were getting Russian sponsorship, but swapping out the Honda was probably taking it a bit too far...  The usual Q&A followed, mostly in Italian; so I was happy when questions were directed at Hiroshi as his Italian is as bad as mine! :-)

Also at the launch was the Gresini Junior team, riding in the new 100cc Honda class Junior Cup, for ages 8-13.
